It seems that every week, we're hearing about another outrageous example of Private Military Contractors, especially Blackwater, (or Xe, as they now call themselves). Last week we were shocked to hear about allegations of how Blackwater billed the government for prostitution. Two weeks ago The Nation highlighted the heartbreaking story of Blackwater's youngest victim, a 9 year old who was shot by Blackwater guards. He was one of 17 victims that day in Nisour square.

As of mid-2009, the United States employed over 22,000 hired guns in Iraq and Afghanistan. And that number keeps going up. Our reliance on private, for-profit companies for the business of waging war is extremely dangerous. It's time we move to eliminate the use of these unaccountable and controversial mercenaries, and I ask you to join me as a citizen co-sponsor of legislation that I have just re-introduced, the Stop Outsourcing Our Security Act.

Stop "Pay to Play" Electioneering PDF Print E-mail

By Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH)

The recent 5-4 Supreme Court decision lifted campaign spending limits for corporations. Now if the big banks on Wall Street don't like what Congress proposes, they can DIRECTLY try to buy a legislature more to their liking.

Stand with me to demand no corporation may spend from its treasury without the express approval of its owners. If the Supreme Court is going to treat corporations as persons with full First Amendment rights, then you and I need to make sure real people are making those decisions. Sign the petition!

We need to respond immediately to the outrageous threat of Senator Shelby of Alabama to block ALL administration nominees to any position, until he gets HIS earmarks for certain pork barrel defense contracts in HIS district.

But FIRST we need your help to give away more and more of the new bumper stickers protesting the corporation palace coup in the Supreme Court. For this particular initiative you need a web page of your own, a blog page, a MySpace page or something like that that allows you to put up a small graphic button with a link to another site. Otherwise, please skip down to the next section for the action to stop the filibuster.

A senior Congressional legislative aide called me this morning on background as follows.

We must begin to organize a massive and unprecedented telephone call in campaign for passage of healthcare reform, to begin at 9AM EST on February 24th and extend through the entire day of the presidential healthcare meeting on February 25th.

This senior Congressional aide (who asked at this time to remain anonymous), advised that nothing less than a citizen outpouring the likes of which members of Congress have never seen, will be sufficient to get healthcare legislation passed.
